Inspired By #5 and Sale-a-bration 2014

Hello, and welcome back! I'm taking a break from hearts today to return to a feature called "Inspired By" where I take a non-papercrafting item, and use it to inspire a card, scrapbook page or other paper-crafted project. I love doing this because it helps me to think outside of the box and try things I probably haven't seen before. I'll be honest...sometimes when you try this you crash and burn! But most of the time you get a really interesting result. So, here is today's card featuring the Banner Blast stamp set from Stampin' Up!'s Sale-a-bration collection and the matching Banner Punch. The colors of cardstock are Strawberry Slush, Blushing Bride, Pink Pirouette and the card base is Whisper White.

Here was my inspiration image for this project. I loved the different shades of pink, and the uneven rows of the varied shades too.

Here you can get a closer look at the details. The inks the banners are stamped with are Smoky Slate and Basic Gray. Some White Baker's Twine finishes off the card.

Well, that is all for today. I'll have some more cards featuring hearts over the next few days. Thanks for stopping by!

Inspired By #1

Hello, and welcome back! I'm getting back to a feature that I've done a few times here on my blog, and I'll be making it a regular feature. I call it "inspired by". I find inspiration everywhere, and I love having Pinterest to organize it all. I really think it's great to push my creativity by using objects that aren't cards or scrapbook layouts to inspire me.

Here is my inspiration piece for today's creations.

Capri Seaside Citrus Fine Fragrance Mist, love the variegated chevron pattern!

I was inspired by the ombre blue to yellow colors, and the chevron pattern. Here is my first card for the day. For the patterned piece, I used the chevron embossing folder, and colored it with 4 different Stampin' Up! markers in Island Indigo, Pool Party, Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry. Then, I went back in with an Aqua Painter and blended the color in each debossed chevron area. I mounted this whole piece to a Crushed Curry mat. The card base is Island Indigo Cardstock.

Here is a close-up of the first card. I added some Island Indigo Baker's Twine, and tied it into a blow. The greeting is from the Hello Lovely stamp set, and I stamped it in Island Indigo onto Crushed Curry Cardstock. I trimmed out the thank you sentiment, and then added more banners under it in Daffodil Delight Cardstock and Pool Party Co'ordination Cardstock. The greeting is adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Here is my second creation based on the image above. This time I started with the Positively Chevron background stamp, and colored the stripes again with Stampin' Up! markers in Island Indigo, Pool Party, Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry. I stamped it onto Whisper White Cardstock cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8". I layered it onto a Whisper White card base.

To finish off the card, I stamped the greeting in Island Indigo onto Daffodil Delight Cardstock, and the frame in Island Indigo onto Pool Party which is punched with the Decorative Label Punch. The two are adhered together. Then, I adhered the Pool Party Seam Binding Ribbon around the card front, and adhered the greeting with Stampin' Dimensionals. I added to So Saffron buttons as the final touch.

Well, that's all for today. What does this piece inspire you to make? Link it up in the comments below; I'd love to see your creation! Thanks for stopping by.

A Card for The Minty Fresh Challenge

I have one more card to share today. My creative buddy Tiffany came over on Saturday for some crafting time. We both made a few projects for upcoming challenges and submission calls. I follow the Moxie Fab Word blog, and one of their current challenges is The Minty Fresh Challenge.

I loved the inspiration picture of the cake that she featured, and that was my main inspiration. I also love the Vintage Jadeite and the Watercolor Peony Wallpaper. It was a thoroughly inspiring post!

And, here is my card. I loved the layers of mint on the cake with little beaded egdes, and the flowers. I used Stampin' Up's Pool Party cardstock, their Paper Flowers and accented it all with Summer Starfruit ribbon, ink sponged on the flowers and a Glimmer Brad in Gold. I've been using the Itty Bitty Banners set and the matching dies on everything lately!

Red and Cream It Is Then

Several of the blogs that I follow have been featuring red and cream projects including Dawn McVey in this post, Mich Wooderson in this post and Betsy Veldman in this post. Mich also showed some pages from her inspiration notebook, which also encouraged me to start my own!  I have been collecting things that inspire me for a while including pictures of cards and scrapbook pages from magazines, anything with color and design from magazines or the web, and I have even take some pictures of miscellaneous items that I liked. I have been trying to decide how to organize them. I read Ali Edwards book Life Artist, which I really loved. She had some good advice about setting up and inspiration resource which was not to complicate it too much. I can tend to spend all of my time organizing and not enough time creating! So, instead of making a pages for card layouts, color combos, titles, etc. I decided just to randomly add the items I like to Kraft cardstock, place them in an 8 1/2 x 11 album in page protectors and write what my ideas were based on the piece including a square border. So, one of the first pieces I put in was an ad from CTMH. I really liked the card templates, so I based this set on those cards using different stamps.  I'll highlight the inspiration page tomorrow.

KWerner Color Challenge #49 & Inspired By #4

It's time for another Kristina Werner color challenge.  These are some bold, bright colors!  I found an inspiration piece in an ad in a Cloth, Paper, Scissors special magazine issue on artist's studios.  The ad featured a quilted pillow, with squares and circles and bright but different colors.  So, I decided to put them both together.  I hope you like it!  I have more of the background left, so I'll probably use the rest for another couple of cards.

Inspired By #3 and March 2009 PTI Blog Hop

It’s time for another installment of “Inspired By”.  I’m doing this in conjunction with Papertrey’s Blog Hop, which I am joining for the first time.  This tag was on something I purchased at Target awhile back…I can’t remember the specific item!  But, I really like the colors and the design with a subtle background, leaf accent and bold title.  I made another card using this scheme before, but I am more pleased with how my second attempt turned out.  I hope you like it too!

Also, I have some previous PTI creations with backgrounds that fit the Blog Hop here (2nd card) and here.

Inspired by Autumn Leaves calendar

Every year for the past couple of years I purchase the Autumn Leaves calendar. They had so many inspiring ideas.  I used the same basic design and color scheme from one of the calendar pages for the following cards. Plus, I got to use one of my favorite Stampin' Up! sets...Kind Thoughts. I can't believe that they retired it this past December! Oh well, it is still safe here in my stamping supply, and won't be going anywhere soon. Enjoy!

Inspired By -- A Shopping Bag

I've started taking everyday objects that inspire me, and making a card, scrapbook page or other crafted item from it.  I though it would be fun to post both the inspiration piece and the creation it inspired.  I know there are lots of creative souls doing something similar with a color challenge, inspiration challenge, etc.  If you want to join in on the fun, make something based on the design, color scheme, etc. and post it in the comments for this entry.  Enjoy!
