Fancy Friday - February 2016 Edition

Hello and welcome back! I'm here again for the next round of Fancy Friday! I'm so glad to be back here to share today. You might have just come from the lovely and talented Krista Frattin. I know she wowed you with her project and I hope to do the same!

This month, we challenged each other to use at least one color that we don't normally use. The first color that came to mind for me was Marina Mist. I have to say after making this card, I'm sorry I have been overlooking this color. It's great for the sky and the balloons here, don't you think?

To start this card, I cut a piece of watercolor paper, stamped the clouds in Versamark ink and heat embossed them in Clear Embossing powder. Then, I washed the whole piece with lots of water and a little Marina Mist ink. Then, I filled in around the clouds with more ink and less water to highlight the clouds with more blue. You can see the background below by itself.

I've been on a real water-color kick lately. If you've been around my blog lately, I'm sure you noticed! I used the no-line water-color technique again on these balloons. You can find a brief tutorial for the technique in this post. For the balloons, I stamped them in Marina Mist, So Saffron and Tangelo Twist, stamping off first before I stamped it on the water-color paper. Then, I colored around the edges, and into the middle, adding more color around the edges for shading. If you would like to see a brief video of this technique, let me know in the comments section! To complete the card front, I added some of the striped silver pattern from the Shine On Specialty Designer Series Paper along the edge. I punched and stacked my balloons over the bunch of string stamp in Smoky Slate Ink. The Miss You sentiment is stamped onto Basic Gray Cardstock, and heat embossed in white. Also, for the individual balloon I stamped over the stars in Versamark, and heat embossed in clear to highlight the stars. It's a simple and fun way to accent a shape that you have a solid stamp for! I also used a piece of (retired) Tangerine Tango Baker's Twine over the balloon strings.

Here is a little graphic of the color combination if you'd like to try something with this combo.

The card base is Kraft Cardstock. I also decorated the inside with another strip of the silver striped paper, and a piece of Shimmer White Cardstock that I lightly water-colored in Marina Mist ink. So now there is a nice, light area to write my greeting in.
